Andover, Massachusetts

ANDOVER

Since Andover was the place that so many of our ancestors call home -- this post is for Andover and the -- Adams, Abbott, Berry, Blanchard, Greenleaf, Mooar families and more.

Andover is a town in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. It was incorporated in 1646 and as of the 2010 census, the population was 33,201. It is part of the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy, Massachusetts-New Hampshire metropolitan statistical area, and is a suburb of Lawrence.

I never found a good blurb to cover the Andover history -- just a long description covering the wars, Salen Witch Trials and more.

Charlotte Helen Abbott
Charlotte Helen Abbott was born in 1844 and died in 1921. She was a member of the Punchard High's first graduating class in 1859. Both a teacher and a dressmaker, her real love was documenting the families of early Andover History. In fact, for 25 years she wrote a column in the Andover Townsman; some of these articles have been added to the Andover Massachusetts page on the Essex County USGenWeb Project. http://andover.essexcountyma.net/chaseries/chaindex.html

Abbott Genealogies

Andover genealogist Charlotte Helen Abbott wrote these unpublished genealogies. Earlier versions of some genealogies were published in the Andover Townsman, the local newspaper. They generally cover older Andover families through the late 19th century. Miss Abbott's genealogies are subjective and rich with anecdotes, but list few sources. Kay O’Neil, with the cooperation of the Andover Historical Society, worked to digitize the typescript manuscript. Originals are also held at Memorial Hall Library.
These are some of the documents thar you’ll find there: Early Settlers  -- Abbot/Abbott Family  -- Berry Family  -- Blanchard Family  -- Farnum Family  -- Mooar Family  -- Symmes Family
